Question for CX LAX based pilots...

If you live in another state and commute to LAX, do you still pay income taxes to the state of California?

Your W-2 comes from Vancouver, BC., via KPMG. They are not interested in withholding state income tax as I recall.

The article states "if 50% of scheduled flight time is over California". I would say the 15-20 minutes of manoeuvring until 12nm offshore would be less than 3% of the total time spent over California and thus not applicable.

This article would be more applicable to a SW or regional crew conducting many legs in CA.

Exactly the point, CPDude. For me, I fly that same 1-2% over the state of California and I just reference:

IAW Franchise Tax Board (FTB) 1031 Para G, I am exempt from filing/paying California State Income Tax
