European acceptance of HKG ATPL

Does anyone know if the HKG ATPL is accepted in Europe as equivalent to the JAA ATPL and/ or the British ATPL?

Is this a HK ATPL or a HK CPL you are talking about?

Been through the process of converting a HK CPL in 2004 and had to do all 14 theory exams as well as a 15 hr flying course with both an IR and CPL flying test to be issued a JAR FCL CPL by the CAA.

I believe the ATPL may be converted on less painful terms, if you have the multi crew time to show. Check with the CAA on the current situation.

Regards, CS

HK ATP can be converted to UK ATP RELATIVELY painlessly, valid for G reg only though.

Checkout LASORS Section G 1.5 for full details. Essentially if you have 1500 PIC on multi pilot aeroplanes, and 500 hours experience on the type to be used for the skills test, you will be exempted from the TRTO training course requirement, but still have to pass ALL (their upper case) of the JAR-FCL theoretical knowledge examinations at ATPL(A) level.

If you have over 3,000 hours experience on PT aircraft over 30,000kgs including 1500 pilot in command then you can apply for an assessment to PLD on form JAR-FCL 680. This may allow you to avoid some of the examinations.

If you email PLD they will just refer you to this section of LASORS, so you may as well buy a copy. Ten quid last time I did.

Or you can download the LASORS pdf file (10mb) from the CAA website for free.
