Aircraft type used for CX251 and CX250
Hello
I have family members going to the UK with CX in April and are flying on flts CX251 HK to Ldn and CX 250 Ldn to HK. They want to be able to call up and try and reserve certain seats, can anyone tell me what A/C is used on these flts. The other flts on CX website say 747, but these flts say Eqv type A/C, does that mean the A340-600. If you could let me know that would be appreciated, thanks.

As csd says it is "normally" a 744.....but 250 is sometimes a 343 (never a 346) on some days of the week.
Your family are best to sign-up on the Cathay website. Then you can check in and pick your seats, online, before you fly. (Then you'll know for sure the acft type)

CX251 & 250 is operated by 747-400.
As far as I know it's the aircraft which spends the day in the hangar having work done on it. Arrives in the morning and departs in the evening.
The reason the timetable shows it as EQV is because the aircraft will most times be a 400 with a normal size business class cabin, occasionally a 400 with the extended business class cabin or a PW engined 400.

BTW, is HKG-LHR long enough distance to use a B346?

Yep heard that the other day as well from the fleet office. It appears the A346 utilization hasn’t been high enough, probably because they spend so much time in the hangar, and airline planning have been told to increase it.

A340-600
Yeh,
CX use the A340-600 on JFK, but they have the third aircraft which they are currently using on the SYD-HKG route, it looks like CX are going to use the third aircraft where they can best utilise the extra capacity. Obviously, during christmas/ new year the Sydney flights are chocka's, maybe HKG-LHR gets busy from late march? Or maybe they are tankering due to the fuel shortage at LHR? But man, that is a long way to take extra gas!
For info, Virgin use 600's on the LHR-HKG-SYD route.
