They are in pretty good shape. Much better than they were when we started operating them almost 2 years ago after having sat in SIN for several years.

They have been maintained well and operated with experienced -400 crews so the fact that AAI has been operating them shouldn't mean a thing.

I've seen some of the AAI Freighter fleet in operation and they didn't seem the best keep aircraft. I guess the passenger fleet is in a lot better condition.

The aircraft have recently had heavy maintenance checks at SIA, so should be in as good shape as any B744's!!!

I can tell you the following about the S/O selection process

It lasted one day and took place at Heatrow airport (BA training center)

round 90 minutes interview (Standard questions about your motivations and some technical questions).

Then basic handling sim ride (20-30 min) in BOAC 1-11. Raw data flying.

No written exam. If well prepared for tech quiz, raw data flying and basic Human ressources questions should be ok
Good book to prepare : "ACE the technical pilot interview" by D Bristow

Hope this might help you.

Good luck

The BOAC 1-11 is nearly as good as Cathays 60th Anniversary model a/c collection featuring the Vickers Catalina. They have only made 600 maybe they will be worth something on ebay!
