Post Straight Talking

To avoid beating around the bush, I aim to tell it the way it is! If this company does not quickly reverse the injustices of '93, '94, '95, and '99 (B-scales, ASL etc, etc), within the next 2-3 months, they will find themselves facing a massive and spontaneous protest from its aircrew body. I foresee a protest that will take the form of an ongoing, random sickout that will quickly bring the airline effectively to a halt. All that may be required is for the many moderates amongst us to go sick once or twice more than we normally would in order to make this form of protest effective. Let no one say otherwise, "sickness is a legitimate industrial tactic", and is no more under-handed than the shameful tactics which this brainless management has used against its aircrew and their families over the past eight years. For me, the motions at the next AOA EGM are somewhat irrelevant. However, the message they herald will be clear. That message will be that we have reached the point, yet again, where reason has failed to secure our legitimate demands. Each individual will be left with the only effective weapon available to him - that is, the withholding of his labour. Some will choose to do this once or twice, others more - and this will go on and on and on and on! There need not be any recriminations about whether or not an individual went sick or otherwise during the 2001 dispute. If he went sick at all, he will have played a part. Of course, one might reasonably expect such a programme of protest to gain momentum as the weeks go by. Nick, if you or your cohorts read these pages, you have been warned. As TH once said, "every dog has its day". You have sucessfully managed to alienate every section of the aircrew body and, unless you change course, you will pay the price of your ineptitude.

Think CX needs to step up the pace of crew recruitment in KUL and other locations. The present CX pilots seem to want to shoot themselves in the foot. Would not be the first time. These guys need all the pity they can muster.

Ignored? I would certainly expect so, from those that are in CX already. My posts are directed to those that are thinking of joining, pointing out the many problems that have existed there for a very long time. With any good luck at all, CX will attract pilots who actually want to work and not retain malcontents who fight the company at every turn.

I am afraid your straight talking is totally misguided.. A quick look at VERY recent disputes round the world will show that the ONLY thing that improves the pilots lot is UNITY. So please look at the EGM motions when they arrive in you box and please SUPPORT THE AOA. Individuals going sick every now and again isn't going to solve anything. We are definitely on the same side tho'.

I see S.O.G. couldn't find any mates to go out and play with

Herb, I agree we are probably on the same side. However, running in parallel with whatever motions may or may not be voted in at the EGM, a programme of personal selective sick-outs, as a natural reaction to management's intransigence, will probably provide the necessary final "ball squeeze" to achieve our aims.

As for S.O.G. Who cares what he says or thinks? One only has to examine his posts to see that his agenda is far removed from ours. That agenda will probably remain a mystery to many of us for some considerable time!

The AOA members and our representatives will, I'm sure, continue to maintain the moral high ground and given time we will succeed in achieving our aims. Do not be sidetracked. Sickness is a legitimate industrial weapon. Use it! Send a message to this inept management that you are tired of being pushed around. Yes, I agree, support the AOA and any motions that are passed at the EGM, but all of us may be required to contribute just that little bit extra. You don't need the AOA to tell you what that is!

N.S.
If you are encouraging crew not to fly when they are unfit for duty then I would heartily agree. However do not think for one fleeting moment that this management will budge one inch unless we are all on a picket line.( or 100% of us have voted to do so).
To those of you who don't think that sort of unity is possible..well things will remain as they are now and probably worse. Don't doubt it for a second boys & girls.
If you want to call in sick when you are actually fit and healthy go right ahead. It will achieve absolutely zip, zero, nowt! IMHO.
I.E. where did it get us in 99'..oh yes a 3 year series of pay cuts.
A 100% vote for a strike is the only thing that's going to get it done.

Well now Herb, for once you have an original idea, one that ALPA has used for years, all out at once = no aircraft move. This works well if your "group" has the guts to follow through. Tossing peanuts at the CEO ain't going to cut the mustard.

Gosh Herb, such invective. Maybe when the locals are in charge, your job, and other trouble makers as well, will be...ah, GONE.

To all you true men of CX...good luck! It will help everyone of you to learn from our strike of '98 in PAL. From what I have read, you are now facing the same kind of management(enemy) that we faced. No surprise there 'coz they come from the same race and political lineage. If you fail, see you in another country in a couple of months.

Yes indeed, and just look at bankrupt PAL today. Labor unions at their best. Not a nice picture. Not to forget L. Tan & company as well.

Man obviously thinks he has the brain the size of a planet, the all knowing "oracle". S.O.G.

Mind you I am probably correct he does have a brain the size of a planet. A planet that was inside the solar system from the cats collar in M.I.B.

411A, WE make no secret of who we work for on this forum. How about telling us who YOU work for then we'll know where to go to fly with/for such a well-balanced individual? Its a simple question, I wonder if you can answer it accurately?
