Wink Press Opportunity

As reported in the weekly message Hong Kong is playing host to the Fortune Economic Forum this week. Guests inclde many of the world's "movers and shakers", including Jiang Zemin and (reportedly) Bill Clinton.
CX are sponsoring this event by way of providing transportation of delegates and, presumably, members of the international business press.
Whilst it would (of course!) be most unfortunate if any of these people were to be in any way inconvenienced by our ongoing disagreements with the company, it may well provide golden opportunities to put our point of view to some very influential people, particularly in the press.
As we know only too well from past incidents Cathay management, and even more so the Swire board, absolutely detest adverse publicity....don't let this chance be wasted!

P.S. And if you want OTP don't forget to take the gear pins out!!

Would/should NOT associate yourselves with Billy Clinton, the laughing stock of the western world. Better to try to get the FAA/DOT to make HongKong (and CX) catagory 2, now THAT would get everyones attention.

Question

Why does anyone respond to this sad, ex SQ, chip-on-his-shoulder 411?

Well, some credit has to go to 411A for thinking the FAA is the better group to appraoch. But to the idea of the "Press Opprotunity," The pilots have allowed there position to weaken with any chance of pulling off a press event unless it is one of catostrophic means, and since this posting you better pray that one doesn't happen. You can be opening yourselves up to a major can of worms with the world press bearing down on you as the disgruntled employees retaliating, "going postal" is not the answer. Supposedly there is a PR agency working for the AOA, but they either have no power with your AOA president or have no understanding of how the media outside of HK works. Over the past two years you have been reading the posts on how to position yourselves with the media, but the suggestions fall and dead (yes I mean dead) ears. Your conditions need to be reported in an honest straight forward manner in the countries that would restrict the movements of CX aircraft if the aviation authorities were aware of the true facts. Statistics can and do speak very loudly, but the suggestion that was lauded by Four Holer can be viewed as being done with malicious forethought and intent, and can be considered illeagal. Be weary of such statements and actions with regards to using the press. This is especially true since years ago when there were so many hijackings. The international press agencies realized how the terrorist were using the press, and the press responded with means and measures of verification, and they also work with the legal authorities of suspisious reports and activities. It isn't so easy to use the press for such actions. It is a sad statement to read that as a group you are willing to stoop to such levels. The "best"? Think about that statement.
