Thumbs up

This week's Flight reports that CX has issued a request for proposals for up to 35 aircraft. As an interim, it is leasing 3 A340-600s from ILFC (presumably the acft mentioned on an earlier thread, due for delivery in 9/02). The bids are due by Dec with final decision by 2/01.

The airline is also leasing two undelivered A340-300s, intended for SIA.

The plan appears to be to acquire 11 A340-600s or 777-300ERs, 6-8 A3XX/747X, another 10 A330s and 6 747-400Fs. If all this goes through, the value will be closer to $5b than $2.5b.

Red face

*sigh* I wish I had $1.00 for everytime someone started a rumour about aircraft orders, then I would'nt have to worry about my 'B' scale salary or my crap Provident Fund!!! I dont think anyone can second guess what they are going buy because I am convinced CX dont know themselves!

Also where has Old China Driver gone these days? I miss his words of wisdom!

Calling OCD...........

Exclamation

I like this one about six 747-400 freighters.

Remember chaps this is the company who said there is no money in freight.

Be wary of any rumors about aircraft types until they are parked at CLK.

Max Thrust - "parked at CLK" - how prophetic since we have no pilots to fly them.

Well, I think that our management has managed to miss virtually all of this upturn.

Not like the "old" company that I joined so many years ago.

I heard that Boeing is actually taking delivery of these A340s in the next few weeks! Does this mean we get new aircraft in the next few weeks? Who will fly them?

Wink

They won't actually take physical ownership of them; two undelivered aircraft are going to CX. Not sure of exact delivery date, but unfortunately it will mean the loss of the 3 ex Air China 340s, which I know we'll all miss.

Incidentally, I understand that a 340 nonstop to JFK is approved for next March - but to supplement rather than replace the 747 flight via YVR.
