Forget about owning a car in HK, it's just too expensive. Tax, parking, tunnel fees, petro are going to bury you. Same it for your kids going to international school since it's extremely expensive.

I still can't believe a litre of Tropicana apple juice costed twice as much as a 2 litre in Vancouver, Canada. And it was nasty tasting.

"45 HK$ for heineken"??!

That's why one should go to 7-11 and get two cans for HK$16!! (= US$2)

just like tamalai said:

It all depends where you shop.

Can't wait for the sevens.

Thanks for the info... it is greatly appreciated. Most of that stuff is cheaper than I thought/heard it'd be. Good news. Fuel could be cheaper though, FAAAARRRK. 2USD/L!!! And they've been complaining in the US!

Dunno, how long it took you... but I'll be the first to say thanks!

OK Chaps, Let's keep It Clean!

I've deleted a couple of posts that dealt with the 'price of pleasure'! I do appreciate that this does fall under the cost of living but we have a mixed clientèle here on PPRuNe so, if you don't mind, we will leave the prices charged at the knocking shops out of it!

Thanks, BE.

IMO these prices are at the very top end in pretty much every case.

For example, my electricity bill has only once every been over HK$1000 in a month, and averages about $500.
I have a 6MB broadband connection plus broadband TV including ESPN/Star, BBC World, HBO and 6 free channels for HK$294.
I was drinking capirinhias in LKF the other night for $55, and I know where to get bottles of beer and house spirits for $21 a time within 100m of LKF. I live in the mid-levels and the local restaurant over the road will serve you a three course dinner including a coffee for HK$45 - it ain't haute cuisine, but it's filling.

Yes, that's the way people live in Hong Kong, I'd say 80% of lifestyle is different to those in other english-speaking places.

GlueBall,

Either you are in a very prestigious development or someone saw you coming. I have a 1300 sq.ft apartment in one of the better developments on Robinson Road (Mid-levels) for HK$20,500.
