then I wonder why over the last few days there have been a large number of f/o waiting in stansted with their instructor to get hold of an aircraft in which to do the base training

probably due to the machinist strike at Boeing - FR opted to keep the 732s longer but then the strike was resolved. Presumably 738s were ready to go but the pilot training had already been deferred. No doubt MOL has extracted recompense for all this pain and suffering from Boeing...

FR 800s at STN
There are no FR 800s in storage at STN. There is normally the odd aircraft on the Delta 70 stands that is either tech or spare for the day. Early in the morning there will be about 6 to 8 aircraft parked up on these stands as there are not enough gates to cope with all the first wave of flights.
Most of the new deliveries are in service out of STN within 1 or 2 days of delivery to Dublin. EI-DHS, DHT & DHV are all based out of STN at the moment and DHW should be appearing any time now.

Reported elsewhere that EI-DCP and EI-DCJ are getting fitted with winglets about now, one at Stansted and the other at Prestwick. Could this be the reason aircraft are standing around?

will ryanair ever pay for cadets on the type rating scheme?
I saw EI-DCJ today with its brand new winglets. I have to admit... it looks nice!
And parking aircraft in STN... and at the same time cancelling over 300 flights in Jan 06 alone "due to the Boeing strike" doesn't make sense, does it?

As stand utilisation at Stansted at times is 100%, by adding winglets to the 800's does this reduce the amount of stands now available during peak periods. do the 800's with winglets all fit on stands currently used by Ryanair 800's?
Adding winglets adds to the wingspan.
