A great cruise check (like FREDA) is
LIFE L = Location (where am I) I = Instruments (are they set and working) F = fuel (is there enough? pump, selector, mixture etc) E = Engine (carb ht, guages) Easy to remember and relevant |

I always knew CRAFT as the clearance sequence:

I remember the acronym for the downwind checks in the Jet Provost when I was learning:-
