IR-LPC in non IFR certified AC.

To the examiners out there.

I want to renew my PPL/IR (JAR regs!) which is expired about 2-3 years ago. Licence is also expired.

So I need to do a proficiency check! I have access to a Socata Rallye which has not been IFR certified for many years but it has all the equipment needed.

So the question is: Can I do the IR-LPC in this aircraft in simulated IMC conditions?

To renew an IR you should ideally, according to my Flight Examiners Handbook, enter Class A airspace but should, in any case, enter regulated airspace of some kind under IFR. You therefore need an aircraft that satisfies the requirements of Schedule 6 (I think) of the ANO.

Someone will come up with more details than I have to hand, but I think that to operate an aircraft in the UK under IFR you have to have at least on NAV/COM which is FM immune. Does your Rallye have that?

IR Renewal

As a CRE/IRR(IRE in old money)
That is not a problem, in fact most renewals are done in simulated conditions.

correct me if I am wrong, but a IR renewal, does not have to enter any form of regulated airspace. Everything can be done simulated (hence the use of an FNPT 2 simulator for renewals)
