instructors rating but where ?
 

I am keen to get my instructors rating for use in the UK. That said, I prefer not to train for this in the UK due to the uncertain Wx. An intensive course is by far my preferred route. I have all the pre-requisites. Any suggestions for where I might do this are welcome. thank you!

I'd be much more inclined to welcome you to our Club if it was done here rather than in Timbuktu. An essential part of instructing is to instil in the student's psyche a safe attitude to understanding and assessing the weather and making the correct decisions before and during flight.

thanks both and I fully understand your reasoning (I fly VFR and IR in the UK and I am a bit of a MetHead ) ....the problem is time. I want (need) to do this as an intensive course and I tried before but Wx got the better of the whole process.

You could try Fly-in-Spain at Jerez. I did an IR course there a few years ago and whilst pricey, had a good experience with facilities and instruction. So far as I know they can do both UK and EASA FI ratings, and I enjoyed learning from Steve Copeland, the British CFI.

Another possibility, in the UK but a bit with good weather, is Aviation South West at Exeter. Again, I think that they can do FI for both UK and EASA licences, and I've done a different course in the last few years and had a good experience with them.

A recommendation, if you are able, get a CRI out of it at the same time. It's a very useful qualification, and gives you privileges an FI(R) doesn't intiially have, as well as easier revalidation requirements if you aren't getting the instructing hours in later.

What privileges does a CRI have that an FI does not?

No need for supervision, but only relevant to FI(R).

And only needs 10hrs instructing every 3 years to revalidate, instead of 50.

You must understand that a CRI cannot teach ab initio, not much use to the majority of flying clubs. It adds adds nothing to FI privileges once unrestricted .
