Instructing for NPPL TMG

Hi I am an Flight Instructor Sailplanes (FIS) with TMG Instructor privileges (4) and FIC privileges(7) and am also an FE Sailplanes with TMG Examining Privileges. I am also a FI and FI (Microlight) with an NPPL.
I used to have an FI SLMG rating but that has expired.
I am trying to understand whether I can train pilots for the new NPPL TMG. Also whether I can examine for the new NPPL TMG. Also whether such training can be carried out at a BGA Gliding Club which is not a "DTO"
I can train ab initio pilots and examine them for a TMG only SPL (which when validated with a Class 2 Medical is ICAO compliant) at our Gliding Club so it would seem sensible I could do the same for a non ICAO National licence ---- but when has sense ever come into aviation regulations!
I would be grateful for signposting to the appropriate referenced documentation.

I think the simple answer is No. The NPPL is an aeroplane licence and to teach for either SEP or TMG you would need to hold an Aeroplane Licence with an associated Instructor certificate. If you can't instruct for it, you can't examine it either. From what I can see there is no requirement for a DTO to teach for the NPPL therefore, subject to having an Aeroplane Instructor Certificate, it could be conducted at a gliding club.

Your sailplane and TMG instructing qualifications are on your SPL. Your old FI SLMG rating cannot be reinstated as 'SLMG' is no longer referred to in the ANO. To instruct for the issue of an NPPL SEP or TMG, you must hold either a National or FCL aeroplane licence (PPL minimum) with an aeroplane flight instructor certificate on it.

Slightly off-topic, but I had both TMG and SLMG added to my ANO PPL in April last year (as well as having 'sailplanes/powered sailplanes' and TMG added to my Part SFCL). Has SLMG been removed from the world since then?

Yes, the SLMG rating has been replaced with TMG and SLMG ratings will no longer be issued

When did that take effect?

Effective from 1 October 2025. ANO amendment was issued on 16 July - SI 2025 850. However, the amendment has not yet been 'consolidated' into a single copy of the ANO so it's quite difficult to get your head round it all.
Both SLMG and SSEA ratings have ceased to exist.
