Currency Again Ppl/lapl use

More rumour tells me Lapl currency has changed, I can find no reference.
Same source suggests a Easa PPL can be used as a lapl even after the sep or rating has expired using a lapl medical, and currency requirements.
which they now be!ieve are in line with PPL.
Can it be used as a LAPL until the sep expires,if the class 2 med has expired.?
is this their source of confusion!

Unfortunately they are in a senior position and it is hard to just say bollocks and not professional without evidence!!!
They did I recall them saying I needed a class one to keep my FI, I did dismiss as tosh.

They are not rumours, the CAA produced a CAP notifying last years amendment to Part FCL CAP 1855
This CAP points you at the EASA Amendment Regulation 2019/1747 which was published last October.

1. The LAPL revalidation has been amended, it can be rolling hours or a Prof Check
2.The PPL can now be used with LAPL privileges however; as it has a Class rating which the LAPL does not, you have to keep the Class rating valid in the normal way
3. A PPL only requires a Class 2 medical so if you instruct on a PPL you only need a Class 2.

Most of these changes have been in the pipeline since 2014! I think this shows how useless the CAA website is at keeping people informed.

Licensing has become a complete mess.
Why not just have a pilots licence and then privileges based on the medical held.
Hang about that's what we had 25 years ago and worked fine then.
And six months to get a night rating has pretty much killed of any attempt to do at the field i operate from.

Just like mixing red and yellow paint at the moment, just keep ending up with shades of orange. But no one knows which shade.

To show the mess on a single page: This is, I believe, up to date and has been sanity checked by experienced Examiners (but any mistakes are mine).

PDF version here.

It has been suggested by those that keep an eye on EASA decision making that some detail could change again "soon", in that it may become possible for microlight hours to be counted towards SEP Revalidation by Experience on an EASA PPL (Note 4 refers).

There are some errors/omissions:
The LAPL revalidation does not include the changes published in Reg EU2019/1747 i.e the option of rolling or a Prof Check
The 1 hour flight with an instructor was modified to; "refresher training of at least 1 hour of total flight time" which could be a number of flights with a number of instructors.
In the case of the LAPL the 1 hour dual training is now included in the 12 hour experience requirement.
The option to revalidate an NPPL with more than one class rating is omitted i.e. meet the experience in one class and at least 1 hour in any other class.

The omission of the option of a Proficiency check as an alternative to Revalidation by Experience is deliberate (Although see Note 3 which I could add now add to the LAPL line): I determined that the table is complex enough as it is, so limited it only to Reval by Exp.

By intent, alternative means of Revalidation are not discussed in detail in that table.

The table deliberately does not refer anywhere to numbers of flights; under "PUT Minimum" it simply says "1 hour with...", which I think covers the point.

Yes, the table was amended in Nov 19 to show this: 12 hours in the "Minimum total required" column which as a total includes the 1 hour in the "Minimum PUT column".

This is shown, and detailed at Note 6.

Whopity, I'm confused as to why a PPL should need to maintain the privileges of a class rating, such the SEPL, in order to operate using the privileges of a lower licence, the LAPL, for which a class rating is not required nor exists.

Could it be because for someone with a Class 2 medical which then on expiry becomes a LAPL medical; when that expires they then obtain a Class 2 they will then be able to revert to PPL privileges, so will need to keep them going during the LAPL medical phase?

The PPL contains a Class rating, if that rating expires then the licence is useless and the privileges cannot be exercised. The LAPL on the other hand has no Class rating and the privileges of the licence which does not expire can be revalidated by Experience or a Prof Check. A Class rating can also be revalidated by a Prof Check or by experience but needs a signature to revalidate or renew it. Not a great deal of difference but the alternative is to pay more to change the licence.
