Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

SOLI transfer and SEP Class Rating revalidation.

There have been a number of recent queries concerning how a pilot holding a Part-FCL Class Rating in his/her licence may revalidate, particularly following State of Licence Issue transfer. For example, a UK-based pilot with an IAA licence wishing to revalidate an SEP Class Rating.

An FE whose certificate was issued by a different MS (e.g. the UK) may only revalidate the Rating through a Proficiency Check, NOT through 'experience'; also the IAA national requirements as stated in the Examiner Differences Document must be met.

Thus unless the pilot can find a UK-based IAA FE, he/she will need to ask a UK FE to fly a Proficiency Check with him/her.

Note also that FI/CRI holding FCL.945 privileges may only exercise them for pilots of the same MS - assuming that the MS actually permits the process. For example, the IAA does not issue FCL.945 privileges to its instructors.
