Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Angry Converting Australian ATPL to EASA CPL

I've finished with airplane flying / instructing and just want to teach MCC / JOC in the simulator. I've got all the required experience and qualifications..... except that my ATPL is Australian, not EASA. According to the UK CAA, I have to have an EASA professional licence to attach the MCCI qualification to. This is despite ED Decision 2011/016/R , SUBPART J - INSTRUCTORS, and GM1 FCL.900 Instructor certificates, saying I don't.

So the only option it seems I have, is to convert my Australian ATPL to EASA CPL..... and then attach the MCCI qualification to that. So that means doing all the CPL theory exams, EASA medical and CPL skills test, just to teach MCC/JOC in the simulator! Seems like a bit of overkill to me.

Does anyone have any better ideas? Been through this process before?
