JAA FTO approval outside of Europe...

Any idea where one should start looking for info about what's involved in becoming a JAA approved FTO?

The UK CAA has had so many applications from schools outside the JAA to become JAA FTOs that it is now referring all such applications to the JAA Licensing Director who will then determine which JAA state will process the application and carry out the regulatory oversight. This may be a difficult path to tread because the revised text of JAR-FCL 1.055 on which the UK CAA has based its policy of granting FTO status to schools outside the JAA has not been formally agreed by the JAA yet - the text is still officially 'reserved'. Hence the central JAA - or a member state other than the UK - may take the view that all such applications should be rejected because they don't meet the current published requirements of JAR-FCL.

What - you wanted a SHORT answer?????
