Trainingflight in new type of aircraft?? May FI?

I wonder if a flight instructor is approved to do a renewal training flight with a pilot in a new for him type of aircraft but within the SE Piston class which he holds?

The pilot have flown the type of aircraft for long time before, but the flight instructor has not. May the flight instructor still do a training flight with that pilot in that aircraft?

Another question. May a flight instructor do a training flight with a pilot in an aircraft where there is not full dual controls? For example only stick but no pedals on flight instructor side?

Essentially there is nothing prohibiting either except common sense and proper training value.

If you are doing simulated instrument flight you must have dual controls

Assuming that the instruction is subject to the EASA Regulation:
AMC1 ORA.ATO.135
"Each training aircraft should be .... fitted with primary flight controls that are instantly accessible by both the student and the instructor (for example dual flight controls or a centre control stick). Swing-over flight controls should not be used.
If the only rudder pedals are in front of the student then they are clearly not instantly accessible by the instructor and the aircraft may not be used for dual flight instruction

I might actually have to retract what I said above.

FCL.710 states:

(a) In order to extend his/her privileges to another variant of aircraft within one class or type rating, the pilot shall undertake difference or familiarisation training.
(c) The differences training shall be entered in the pilots logbook or equivalent record and signe by the instructor as appropriate.

The above seems to restrict pilots, instructors and examiners to one variant until differences or familiarisation training is undertaken and signed in the logbook.

Differences training has to be certified in the logbook but familiarisation training does not. The only differences training mandated for SEP aeroplanes is for VP props; retractable undercarriage; turbocharging; cabin pressurisation; tailwheel; EFIS and SLPC. If differences training is not required, or has been completed, the only requirement to instruct on a new type is for familiarisation training, which may be as simple as reading the POH.

Just as well that EASA is unlikely to ever regulate flexwing microlights.
