Best Range
Hi
I'm reading through a PofF handout that I was given during my initial instructor training and can't make sense of the first line in the Range and Endurance section:
"Range= M. A. N. M/G, therefore max range requires maximum fuel"
What does M. A. N. M/G stand for?

Looks like Max Air Nautical Miles / Gallon......except it's Max *Ground* Naut. Miles / Gallon that is needed for range. Only in nil wind will ANM = GNM, all other factors being equal.

If the grey matter still works, a long time ago before computer flight logs I am sure we used to convert ground miles to air miles by applying the wind component.
This distance was then used to calculate the fuel requirement.
