CFI Renewal
US ex-CFI fellow wants to become current again and also get MEI and CFII.
He has let his CFI lapse for over 2 years.
Question please:
Will he need to re-do his CFI written?
Can he get his CFI renewed just by doing the CFII and CFI/MEI practical? (of course he will need to do the CFII Written too).
Are there any minimum flight times for training?

Hello,
If you do a CFII or an MEI checkride, it is my understanding, that you wll have your flight instructor certificate reinstated.
A call to some local flight schools would be a good place to start.

The above advice is right, you could use the opportunity to add another instructor rating, but you may also just go to one of the aopa seminars. Check around their website for details on the nearest one to you.

The AOPA seminars won't cut it for a reinstatement. If the instructor certificate is indeed expired, it can only be reinstated...not renewed. With that in mind, a practical test for any rating held on that instructor certificate will be necessary in order to reinstate it, or a practical test for an additional rating.
No. However, if he's attempting a new rating (CFII, for example), then the knowledge test for that rating must be passed.
Yes...by taking the practical test for an existing rating, or a new one, all ratings previously held will be reinstated as the certificate is reinstated.
No, unless it's for the R22 (SFAR).
