JAA IR in an N-reg plane?

Does anybody have a reference saying this is not possible?

As I see it, with the normal DfT permission for training one can do any training in the aircraft, and pay the instructor.

I am specifically interested in whether there is any reason the CAA IR checkride cannot be done in an N-reg.

Additionally, if there is a problem with this, is anybody aware of another JAA member state in which this is possible?

You need the usual DFT approval to train the owner, and additionally to do the initial CAA IRT the aircraft will have to have a CAA Doc 7 approval. The latter requires a thorough check of the paperwork a check that you have suitable screens for the IRT and payment of the approval fee.
