Becoming a TRI
Hi can anyone tell me what you have to do to become a Type rating Instructor or a Type rating examiner for the likes of a big airline ?
Do you have to go threw being a ME-IR instructor first and then get the type rating become a first officer then captain then where ?
confused

Not even sure you need to have been an instructor in the past, but probably helpful.
TRI/TREs are picked from the most experienced captins of an airline, so you are correct in saying that you need to become type rated, FO, and then captain before you can look at it. There is also another level with most airlines, the Line training captain who looks after new f/o's after completion of type ratings. You will also need to do a TRI/TRE course on the particular type before you can start.
Have a look at Storm aviation or other agency websites for individual requirements, some don't ask for a minimum of PIC hours but you will need a good deal of experience before being considered

To gain a TRI rating, you needn't be a Captain, simply a type rated F/O. A TRI core course is required, prior to completion of a TRI type specific course, unless you have held an FI or examiner rating on light aircraft within past 5 years. See relevant AIC. In which case you are exempt from completing a core course.

cheers guys any idea how difficult the core course is?
would you have to be the best of the best to be thinking of
a step like this ?or is it just hard graft.

It's simply hard graft. (both the Core Cse & the TRI specific) As for the "best of the best", no... However, you do need to know your stuff & have an aptitude for teaching. That, perhaps is the hardest bit. (Just cast your mind back to your "best & worst" instructors!)
