Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Sorry - Intruding on your forum again!

A certain person - of pink headsets fame - asked me by PM to post when I'd done something....because he said "You will do it!". Anything to oblige!

2 1/2 years ago I had a 1/2 hour aeros trial lesson and got totally and utterly hooked on "upside down" flying...and a lot of that was due to the attitude, and fun loving nature, of the instructor in question. The poor, long sufffering (), aero's instructor became my PPL instructor too, and has been hoofing me around the sky ever since......

NAV is not my strong point ... and I think I've caused this instructor lots of head scratching moments trying to work out WHAT would work to get me to do this strange thing of getting from A to B with only a compass, chart and a stopwatch ...

But he DID get me there....

I was signed off to do my skills test in January, and had 3 wx cancellations. I then got a partial....ON NAV..., and then ANOTHER wx cancellation .

I have been camped out at the airfield taking annual leave, owed time off in lieu, every weekend and bank holiday just TRYING to get up in the air - to stay current - feeling that everything was getting rusty! And all the time he's been trying to keep me calm, feet on the ground, and on the level....

Test was re-booked for today (3 months after sign off)...but yesterday, despite us BOTH having full time jobs, he e-mailed AND called me at work to say that he could "re-polish" me if I could get to the airfield that afternoon.... He knew I hadn't flown with an instructor for weeks, and every time I'd turned up for a solo sign off, or even booked a different instructor, I'd been grounded 'cos of Wx... FRUSTRATION REIGNED SUPREME...

When the offer came in... I said YES......... and ran for the airfield. A refresh on essentials, and some reassuring words, made me feel better prepared for today...........

AND I PASSED!!!

THANK YOU HFD....

I've read lots of threads on this forum about hours building instructors, career instructors, those that care, and those with a professional approach, and those that don't...

I think you deserve a category all to yourself.... You've carried me through this for a VERY long time and thank you doesn't seem enough to say..... But I've had a few to drink, and am quite suprised that I can still type!! .

First of all Mad Girl, well done on passing. Big smileys!!

Kind words indeed. I'm sure the person to whom you refer will be feeling pretty damn good about your pass as well!! More big smileys!!

Again, well done! Even more big smileys!!

Most instructors are sky gods, it's just that some prefer to hide it more than others.

"I'm sure the person to whom you refer will be feeling pretty damn good about your pass as well!!" - better described as a sense of relief that the torment is over but MG now wants to get the Aeros going, so I guess it isn't

Well done mad_girl.

HFD after a couple of weeks after they pass the hair starts re-growing if your lucky it doesn't all come back gray. Although if she is doing the works TD,aeros and IMC I think you might end up like Duncan Goodhew

Congrats!

Congratulations, Mad Girl. I know you don't like flying horizontally the right way up. I suggest taildragger checkout next; (there are no tricycle Caps, Steens, Pittses or Extras).

I have departed the Club for pastures new. Please give my kind regards to our favourite Maffioso.

Thanks....
But I'll be going back to the Bulldog ... It's time I stopped doing the S&L stuff for a bit and just have LOTS of fun..... although I'm sure I'll be "encouraged" () to go on some NAV trips and practice my GH just so that I don't lose everything that's been beaten into me!.

HFD hasn't lost OR gained any hair - to my knowledge... although I don't check!!
There may be a few more lines, but whether that's from FEAR (), or from laughing his head off when I bx something up, or from having to be VERY assertive with me (), remains to be confirmed or denied .

And be nice!!! - It's my Birthday.....

Remember... a student is for life... not just for Xmas!
