Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Question Mode S (is for shambles apparantly)

bit of a poor show, being an instructor and all that.

What the hell is mode S, and what is it all about????

I got into a nice conversation with some fellow instructors on sunday when it was pissing it down. I just smiled politely and gave the occassional "yes" "No" "erm i agree" blah blah blah when in actual fact i didnt have a clue what the hell they were banging on about!!!

I do know from my conversation that its a useless idea for private ga aircraft though, the word shambles kept getting mentioned!

I seem to remember something being mentioned during groundschool, but then i can remember lots of things being mentioned during ground school that i seem to know the square root of FA about these days!!!!!!

Try this link

Now you can amaze your mates and let them know what a 'squitter' is!.

Or try a slightly easier read at Wikipedia
