Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Problems for a foreigner doing a trial-lesson in the USA?

A colleague of mine mentioned he wants to buy a trial lesson for a friend of his as a surprise. My colleague lives in the UK and his buddy in Florida. Both are UK citizens. My question is, are there any technicalities that would prevent him surprising his friend with this due to the fact that he's a foreigner (post 9/11 and all..)?

Can he just book a lesson with a school without having to provide detailed information about the student in advance?

Thanks,

Si

As long as the flight is not towards a rating he can take it without a visa or contacting the TSA. A "trial lesson" for a student pilot could be taken the wrong way. There is a lot of information on www.aopa.org
