Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

solo sign offs towards the 25 to be unrestricted

i had 8 solo sign offs from working in the uk therefore needed a further 17.

i went to usa to california recently for a week and went to see an old friend in a flight school that does JAA training. in talking he said could go there for a few days, supervise the JAA students goign solo in circuit etc and therefor gain my signoffs, just as he did.

is this ok to do (bearing in mind that the students in theory are being supervised already by their FAA instrctors)

i did none, but would consider a weeks holiday next year to enable me to get unrestricted quickly.

ta very much and merry christmas

Sounds OK provided that:

a) you are on the list of instructors nominated at that FTO to give instruction on an approved JAA course.

b) you hold a FAA CPL with CFI rating entitling you to give ab-initio instruction and to authorise solo flights in the USA

c) you have a USA visa/work permit. The CAA won't mind but the Feds might
