Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

New 170a forms

Interested to know peoples opinions on the new 170a forms.
For those who haven't seen them we now have to sign off that candidates have satisfactory knowledge of : UK rules of Air / a/c operations / Licence priviledges / Classification and Use of airspace / ATC Procedures and " other ". It seems after conversations with CAA examiniers, that they are trying to use the IR to catch the failings of the written exams and RT test.
If candidates are lacking in some of these areas they should adjust the examination of those areas. The IR is after all only a rating which is availible to PPL's.

Complexity is job creating......

re:the IR for PPLs - they do not do the PPL/IR in the UK anymore
Oh sorry; just 25 did it 03-04, they were on-route to a 'professional' licence anyway as far as I understand........

We did about 30 IR's "en route" to their commercial and 2 with no intention of going commercial. But the fact remains that whatever they are doing in the future they are still doing a rating for PPL.
