Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

Question Has any UK instructor worked in the US or Spain?

I'm thinking of leaving this grotty Wx and fancy Spain or the US - has anyone ever done this - what about teaching to JAR - presumably this will be OK in any contracting state? Anyone ever heard of a living wage abroad????

I've never heard of an Instructor getting a living wage anywhere. By some miracle does this happen in UK?

Yes but as he's working for Aerospace (AKA the RAF retirement home) he's probably had to learn how to salute the CFI!

Still, worth it for the sunshine at least!

Hell I'd salute the CO erm I mean CFI - he's a decent Boss.

Actually we try to avoid the RAF atmosphere but it breaks out now and again - but personally I think thats good. Place does feel a bit like a UAS. Which is nice.

I live pretty well down here and can save about 800 quid a month. I a indeed lying by the pool at the moment. 32 degrees, CAVOK, 5kts down the rather large runway. Nice.

Come on in - the waters lovely

I have a friend instructing in the states at the moment and he seems reasonably happy. He is instructing at one of the schools in Florida and he is earning quite well..doing about 100 hrs a month, a house on the beach, nice car and some american totty on his arm in an evening. Not bad eh!
