Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

I am interested to hear form anyone about this topic, obviously the shortest and longest times would also be of some interest, but any general stories or observations welcomed

Depends what restriction you are talking about! How long is a ball of string?

Guess you mean getting those 25 solo sign offs. Git my FI R in July - but took 3 weeks for the campaign against aviation to get my licence back and got my sign offs finished just before xmas. Now waiting - again - for licence to come back from Gatwick. What do they do down there?

Anyway - 1st job I had was a mainly trial flight sort of place and in 2 months managed to get a grand total of 0 signoffs. Then moved and the new place concentrates on PPL courses. It is here the signatures came from. If my first school had not gone bankrupt then I guess I would still be waiting.

noggin as far as most flying instructors are concerned, I can only think of 1 type of restiction. The one that is represented by the (R) in your initial FI(R) qualification. Thats the only trouble with this site, people who are too interesting and knowledgeable to answer a simple question. How long is a piece of string, give me the string and I'll measure it for you, it can't be that difficult.

Careful Kougar...

I think there are other instructor restrictions:
Night, Aerobatics and Applied Instruments.
Plus other non defined "restrictions" of specific instructor training such as complex single and tailwheel type not taught on the basic sylabus.

Unaware of time restrictions - except for revalidation in 3 years.

Lightbulb

I started instructing last April part time, I now have 100 instructional hours but only 6 supervised solo's. Oddly enough my very first lesson lead to a supervised solo flight.

A mate on the same FI course as me had instructed for 300 hours before having his restriction removed.

cheers

Kougar,

I recall a Flight Safety poster that says:
Don't Assume! CHECK!
If you ask vague questions in aviation, you are quiite likely to get the wrong answer. This forum is no exception.
