Flying Instructors & Examiners A place for instructors to communicate with one another because some of them get a bit tired of the attitude that instructing is the lowest form of aviation, as seems to prevail on some of the other forums!

FI with IF privileges - Revalidation

On my last revalidation test I had to demonstrate some IF flying and a let down for the IF privileges of my FI rating.

My examiner later told me that I had to have also taught 10+ hours of IF in the previous 12 months to satisfy the CAA ..... 1st time I have heard of this ?

Anyone else heard of this 10 hour rule ?

The 10 hour requirement only applies to instruction for the Instrument Rating if privileges to instruct for this are being revalidated by experience.

Yes - I had the ridiculous requirement removed for those FIs teaching IMC ratings only. It was the CAA's incorrect reading of JAR-FCL which had caused it.

Another example of an Examiner who hasn't kept up with the changes??

Thanks - confirms my thoughts.

Since you have to demonstrate IF and a let down during a Revaildation it would be silly to also have an hours requirement (their isn't for the night of aerobatic restrictions to be kept valid as far as I'm aware either ?).
