Aircrafts below 2000 kg
Hello,
does any of you know any details regarding EASA regulations for flight testing of aircrafts with MTOW below 2000 kg? As far as I know, in such a case there is no need for any test pilot rating. Does it really work in that way? And if yes - is MTOW the only limit? Thank you in advance. |
That is correct - but whoever is overseeing the flight testing : either EASA or your national authority will have to approve the flight test structure and pilot qualifications. You just don't need the specific EASA flight test rating.

Thank you Genghis.
I did not find it in FCL.820 but are there any other restrictions except for MTOW? Such as propulsion type, speeds etc. |
Not that I am aware of.
Here in the UK , we have a mechanism called "E-conditions " that permits qualified individuals to supervise flight testing under 2000kg. There are a mixture of rules and guidelines about *how* we may do this, but the restriction is basically to true flight testing of manned aircraft of any configuration under 2000kg MTOW. G |

No need for an EASA FTR only if an aeroplane <2000kg. FTR needed for an experimental or development (ie class 1 or 2 as defined in Part 21) test flight of any helicopter, regardless of MAUW.
