GE 747 emergency landing in HNL
A GE 747 the flying test bed for the GE90-115B (777-300ER/ 777-200LR) has made an emergency landing in HNL. Seems the test engine or it's pylon had cought fire. Crew evacuated via 2nd starboard maindeck slide. Nobody injured. http://www.thehawaiichannel.com/news...35/detail.html

The machine is based here at Mojave, less than 400 yards away. I'll ask one of the guys when they get back if they can recommend the slide for amusement parks....

For a real thrill the flight crew could of used the inertial reels that come out of the cockpit escape hatch. In B747 GS I saw a training film which showed a fellow climbing out and sliding down the side of the aircraft holding onto a little handle attached to a small cable, on a 35 foot descent.
