Pax River Test Pilots have a Mixed Day!

Two Pax River Test Pilots.....well former Test Pilots perhaps.....had a mixed day of Flying recently. While off flying in a Mooney they experienced Engine Problems and made an emergency landing into a Cornfield near Pax River.

The Results....no injuries and one slightly dinged up Mooney.

From: these mist covered mountains are a home now for me.
Looks like a well executed forced landing.

When I was an instructor there, two staff at the US Naval Test Pilot School (can't remember, but I think one of them was a navigator) had rented a C-172 for a ski trip. Ran out of gas on the way back and landed safely on a suburban street.
One of them ended up going to NASA as a mission specialist. But with a bit of a reputation...

I'm just curious, was this a USNTPS "qual eval" or were they flying recreationally? I've seen a lot of airplanes on the ramp at Pax River, but I've never noticed a Mooney.
