Avionics Degree
Greetings from ‘InTheAir’,
Shortly I am off to the US to acquire my PPL, after this ‘I’d like’ to do a 3 year degree in Avionics (BEng). Does anybody on this forum have such a degree. If yes, I’d appreciate some information. Also would you agree that Avionics is a ‘needy’ industry, I mean is there a need for bright new ideas (not that the current ones are bad) and a need for new people in this industry?

I have an aero-eng degree, but haven't worked in Avionics much. Most of the people I've met who do work in Avionics have electronics degrees + separate aeronautical experience.
I don't think the Avionics world is looking for exciting new ideas, it is looking for people who can make things work better, cheaper (or sometimes at-all).
You might like to look up aerospace systems degrees, which deal with flight controls, power systems etc. rather than just avionics. Southampton do such a degree, presumably others.

I am just coming to the end of my aerospace engineering degree and am taking the avionics option which is a part of the course.
I agree with Ghengis that you would be best looking up an Aerospace Systems course rather than a pure Avionics course because if you specilise too much you may not be Multidiciplinary enough for some applications.
Most Aero courses do contain modules where you can explore avionics and systems and there is plenty of scope to look at these areas.
