Hanging off thingy

Guys or gals in this modern age , when you se footage of airliners being flight tested they always seem to have an object trailing on a cable from the top of the fin ,what is that ?

It's a trailing static, used as part of the effort to calibrate the aeroplane's pitot-static system.
