I seem to remember an incident at the old RAF Middleton St. George when the Lightning OCU was there, probably in the early 1960's. A friend of mine, Alan Turley, landed with only one main leg down and survived.

Interesting thoughts.

I know nothing 'bout the physics, but a swept wing jet will stop in 'bout 250 yards if popped into a field with the gear up (not remembering the chute)

Also, one should remember that a parachute ride in a 30 kt wind might sting a bit!

Tried it, didn't like it much but flew the next day and have no injuries so I guess it works ;-))

Some might think the distance would depend on the weight and shape of the aircraft plus the touchdown speed used and the nature of the ground in the field.

Hi all
Wasn't there a French Super Mystere force-landed a few short years ago? The pilot walked away but the aircraft, although intact, was written off. Still, wouldn't like to try it, meself.

Had it from the horses mouth so to speak that since Irvin-GQ meged they still issue the silkworm for peeps using their parachutes to escape.
That would mean almost all Martin Baker seats.
Had a guided tour of the factory last week and wow!, what an experience. Thanks to all involved.
