Air Berlin off to Gatwick

In september i posted Air Berlin join oneworld and asked would they pull out of STN and go to Gatwick to be near there partners.....well the answer is yes they will as from Feb ....it looks like the Hannover and Nurumberg will be the first to go.........what next all the dash 8 aircraft going into London city......unless Servisair pull something out of the bag soon at STN, it will be a trip down the job centre for all.

Merry Xmas

Saw swissport handling Air Asia the other night, have servisair lost that aswell? Also whats going on with germanwings?

Xcircustiger 13th Nov 2010 20:05

DCMs Already Started !!!!!!

Servisair already started the thinning out process by
outing two of the best Ops Supervisors at STN !!!
Didn't mean to imply they were gay but they were ex Aviance
so may be that was the plan.... Also same process for
two of the Ramp Supervisors and one of them will have
to be from the Servisair stable !!!!!

......as for the Swissport pushing Air Asia A320 that was
doing a one off charter .. Air Asia supplied the aircraft..

Bagmanlgw 13th Nov 2010 20:10

Air Berlin

How many flights do Air Berlin operate a day from STN ?

I heard they had a start date at LGW for Early Feb with 27 flights a week to begin with

Xcircustiger 13th Nov 2010 20:18

There are 4 flights 1st wave followed by 2 after lunch
and a further 4 in the evening peak...that's Day 1 - 5 inc
then Day 6 is just the 4 in the morning and Day 7 the 4 in the evening...
...so that's 58 per week...

Strongly rumoured here that NUE and HAJ will leave STN in Feb 2011
so that will be 22 flights off to LGW. Looks like they may start a TXL
at the same time...

Bagmanlgw 13th Nov 2010 20:27

Air Berlin

The routes that I have seen slots allocated for at LGW are for
HAJ - NUE and TXL with the TXL operating a evening rotation

What other routes are still left at STN then?

DCMs ALREADY STARTED

I could not agree more about one of the ex aviance ops men being the wrong choice to go from STN....i had the job of running him down the car park in the early hours and saying good bye to him.....he was a very nice bloke.............I COULD HAVE MADE AT LEAST ONE BETTER CHOICE THAN HIM :ok:.....I wish him all the best in what ever he does next.

......as for the Swissport pushing Air Asia A320 that was
doing a one off charter .. Air Asia supplied the aircraft.. thanks for the info...and what about germanwings, everybody seems to think that they are going to handle them next year.3 seperate handling agents cant all be right.

stanstedsteve 14th Nov 2010 19:41

Air Berlin

Is the STN-PAD route going as well ???

Hounddog1 15th Nov 2010 09:43

Looks like only cargo left at Stansted when Air Berlin wander down to LGW.

Must be a few jobs in that arena for the ousted management..

To think a few number of years ago Servisair had over 90% of the buisness at Stansted, now look at it, dont see much fire in managers bellies to fight back and hold on to what is still left..

Thinking about it, did'nt cargo have a shake up of staff and managers a while back with some experienced Duty Managers leaving the company and a transfer of some staff to ramp, all connected with the aquisition[sorry about spelling] of Aviance ??

talk english 15th Nov 2010 13:01

after airberlin go,what will servisair have left?

GRIZZLER 15th Nov 2010 14:11

A Cunning Plan

I think what is going to happen...Servisair will buy Swissport and Menzies:ok:

sat1 15th Nov 2010 16:18

didnt servisair try that before with aviance?

james finlayson 15th Nov 2010 17:27

Swissport have just been sold to an investment company by Ferrovial.

TOWTEAMBASE 15th Nov 2010 19:18

AH HAAA, the return of SAT1, hovering like a buzzard every time Servisair lose a contract. Been bought out hey, that may explain the transition in uniform....red trousers, yellow fleece, orange hi vis, brown tongue , no wonder your ol mate jumped ship into the farm ;0

Hollymead 15th Nov 2010 19:47

Swissport have just been sold to an investment company by Ferrovial.
To be sold on to a handling company in 18 months time ???

TOWTEAMBASE 15th Nov 2010 19:51

any idea of the new company name

Hounddog1 16th Nov 2010 05:42

The only people that will be keeping their jobs are the companies HR department's involved with all these take overs/buy outs etc and sorting out who stays by whatever criteria they make up to suit their own needs

Xcircustiger 16th Nov 2010 10:47

...and indeed Union Reps seem pretty good at influencing said
criteria and thus keeping their jobs !!!!

STN Ramp Rat 16th Nov 2010 15:06

this is in the wrong forum really and I have just posted it in airlines and routes but ....

Gatwick Airport

at the moment its just the NUE and HAJ service moving so they will have a split operation for a while at least

Hounddog1 16th Nov 2010 17:29

Thin end of the wedge mate - the whole lot will eventually go to LGW, Merry Christmas Servisair from Air Berlin ...

Hounddog1 16th Nov 2010 17:33

Here is a chain of thought, could Servisair actually give up pax handling at STN and hand over the remaining flights to Swissport/Menzies, as without Air Berlin, there is a huge void and the staff needed to support the so small remaining programme will be minimal. Revenue vs Costs ... You can easily see how out of balance that will be ..

sat1 16th Nov 2010 18:02

flights at two airports require double everything to accomodate,common sense dictates that ALL their flights WILL eventually operate from a single airport--gatwick,its inevitable,unfortunate,but inevitable.:{:{

Capt Wannabe 16th Nov 2010 21:14

Have Servisair got the AB contract at LGW then?

JimmyFlyer 17th Nov 2010 16:45

and now the passengers go

I have been using STN regularly on the NUE route (I have 14 current return bookings which Air Berlin still took the money for whilst knowing the route was already defunct).

I believe Air Berlin is making a big mistake moving to Gatwick, the accessibility is awful for anyone north of London and so you basically allienate a good chunk of your customers. They've pushed me away because I will probably have to go back to Manchester.

STN loses Air Berlin. Air Berlin loses customers. What next ?

stanstedsteve 19th Nov 2010 14:26

Air Berlin

Will have to tell my military friends who use the STN-PAD route not to make any advance bookings Gatwick is no good for them !!!

SENFLYER 19th Nov 2010 19:47

Air Berlin

Hopefully German Wings will take up some of the routes that Air Berlin
drop from STN if not we could all be in trouble. STN mvts still down 60% a day already! We'll soon be handling tumble weed instead of a/c.:ugh:
