Menzies Looses Ground Handling At Manchester And Eastmindlands For Thomas Cook

Hello their just though i would tell everyone menzies currently have just lost there contract to ground handle thomas cook at manchester and are in talks trying to save it at ema many reduncies are expected

captainspeaking 17th Dec 2008 12:27

... which is obviously bad news for the ground handlers concerned, but of little interest to aircrew.

morton 17th Dec 2008 12:35

...unless you are waiting for a Tug, the jetty to come on or indefinitely delayed after the baggage loader harpoons your aircraft! All courtesy of the cheapest bidder.

VICKERS VC10 17th Dec 2008 14:10

Do you know who won the contract?

Out Of Trim 17th Dec 2008 15:21

So what came loose?

Oh, you meant lose as in lost! Why didn't you say so.

123jobsearcher123 18th Dec 2008 07:15

Lol yeah sorry i did mean lose!!!!!! More than likely that Servisair have got the contract at east midlands aswell then.

PakMan 18th Dec 2008 16:12

I hope your CV is not like your post, spelling and grammar are important:ugh:

JennyB 19th Dec 2008 06:38

They are, but in a service industry not being an anal obsessive with a penchant for "smilies" far more important don't you think?

DidIdothat 19th Dec 2008 07:50

G-STAW.

I would certainly like to meet the Manager that says "I don't want to re-new these two major contracts"

G-STAW you are living in cloud Cuckoo land and maybe we could shake hands sometime. i would be very interested in meeting you.

merlinxx 19th Dec 2008 09:00

Ooohh dear JennyB, I guess my 44 years does not count then ? As they say "been there, seen it, done it and got the honey cart T-shirt". Have fun.

PakMan 19th Dec 2008 13:22

anyway...back to the contract...so have servisair got it?

happy at last 20th Dec 2008 16:21

Jenny B

You cracked me up! very well said indeed!

Maybe 44 years of experience makes some people forget where they started from!

Captainspeaking

I do hope that in the future your attitude to all the ground staff that turn your aircraft round in all weathers with all the pressures of tight turnrounds will change. We are an integral part of your job and while you are in your cosy flight deck the guys and girls outside are are ensuring that you depart as safely and quickly as possible. It may not be of consequence to you that someone on the ground loses their job but without them you can't do yours. I assume that you have been in your position for some time but your comment -"of little interest to aircrew" seems a little harsh.

I know that all aircrew don't share your views but it's a cut-throat business out there and we all do our best for everyone given the limitations placed upon us.

Keep safe

:ok:

merlinxx 20th Dec 2008 18:35

He he HAL

Maybe had you approached me for a job some 10, 20, 30 or 40 years ago, you'd not have got one ! One looks for knowledge, experience, adaptability, and above all enthusiasm. Would you care to come and learn how to use a REAL HONEY CART
in DNKN or DNMM after an inbound HAJJ ?

Thought not :E

But it is tax free ! Sorry too happy to get into wind-up mode:ok:

Servisair

What i don't think many people understand is that Servisair are the "big guns" in ground handling, I'm not saying they are the best in anyway.

What you have to understand is Servisair have been around from Day 1 and pick and choose when they want to win or loose contracts, thats the way they work and have worked form day 1.

RoyHudd 21st Dec 2008 10:04

Pity about Menzies. They were good at MAN and EMA, and didn't deserve to lose the contract. Probably jumped-up or stressed-up TCX managers tempted by immediate cost-savings offered by the competition. Which means pilots cabin crew and ground-handlers have to struggle again. Plus passengers. Merry Xmas.

PS Forget captainspeaking...wind-up merchant

This has happened at LHR! SAS gave notice to several airlines saying that financially it was unviable for them to handle a few of their big carriers. As people have said airlines are demanding more and more at a much lower cost. It gets to the point where handling agents would be loss-making if no other action was taken.

PakMan 21st Dec 2008 16:34

so when do Servisair officially take-over?

G-STAW 21st Dec 2008 20:08

march at the latest

I'm not saying they are the best in anyway.

maybe, swissport are also a good outfit here at MAN, great operation they have.

i think flight support have won the jet2 contract.

G-STAW
