Anyone out there been involved with organising flights to the Ukraine? I've a mind to take a small piston-engine Cessna on a VFR private flight to Odessa and Simferopol, but my first contact with the authorities has been hampered by language problems (surprise!).
From what I can make out it it's airways only (is there any VFR there?, it doesn't specify in the Flight Clearance Guide Cap 555). Also there's no Avgas at Odessa and I hear they won't let you take car fuel onto the airfield in cans. Can't make out if there's fuel at Simferopol. Believe it says not. I believe theire's fuel at Chisinau (Moldova) and Constanta (Rumania) but I don't have the endurance to get from there to Simferopol and back.
The guy also said I'd need permission from the military to land at Odessa, which would be difficult to get.
Any info on this country would be gratefully received.
