What is Four-Dimension flight?

If you're thinking about flightplans and the control of flights, it's to do with knowing the time that a flight will be at a particular position in space. You'll also hear words like 'trajectory' (rather than route) being used to describe the planned or actual path that an aircraft flies. You can find more about the European approach to all this stuff on the SESAR website.

The usual X, Y, Z. Here being latitude, longitude and altitude. Therefore 4-dimensional control of flight is knowing at what time a/c will be at given 3D coordinates.
