Aer Arann

I've an interview coming up next week with Aer Arann for an Operations Controllers job.

Anyone out there who's got any info on what it's really like to work for the company, what they look for and what to expect on the job. That would be great.

RE

I hope it's Horse %$&*...there are a lot of good folks working there and RE would be a big loss for people in the parts of Ireland that MOL doesn't give a crap about.

The pressure on the fuel bill should have eased off a little lately, maybe this will give them time to catch their breath and ride out the storm.

Aer Arran

Latest news from around the Dublin office is that Aer Arran is close to failure, kitty is bare and the bums on seats are getting less and less. Is this just gossip ? any more info greatly appreciated.

I cannot see RE going bust. All the PSO routes are funded by the irish government. Two of there a/c are on lucrative contracts with flybe at BHD and GLA. There fleet are currently being upgraded to brand new a/c. ATR's are much more fuel efficent in comparison to jets.
Yes maybe they will have to cut routes that are not performing in the winter but thats common practice with any airline. I belive they have further lease agreements for the winter so their aircraft wont be sitting idle on the ground.

Back to the orginal question, I have heard they are a very good company to work for.

aerosexual,
From what I know of them they are a decent bunch to work for
Mr P O'Ceidigh is a sound chappy and is passionate about his company. As with most companies you'll probaly find characters there that you won't like / get on with but hey that's life innit!

Being a good company to work for doesn't protect them from the big bad world outside and in the current climate they have as much chance of finding turbulent air as the next guy PSO funding or not.

You takes your chances, check out Paddy Power for latest odds

They ARE a decent bunch to work for. I hope that current events don't take their toll, but undoubtedly they'll make a dent somewhere. As for PSO's, they're funded by Brussels, not Leinster House, hence the competition open to all. I've not been privvy to bums on seats numbers, but economics being what they are these days are bound to effect loads. MOL, I would imagine cares about everyone who is willing to hand over money for his product, as any businessman would. It's not personal, but if a business cannot see viability in a venture, chop it; people are always going to be affected. Is it really that far from Galway county to Shannon? Why not take the drive?

Rumours and hear say are part and parcel of our industry, it's always been like that and those of us who know better, know that you shouldn't believe anything in this game until you see it with your own eyes.

To my learned friend who is going for the ground ops job, the best of luck to you. I hope it brings you success and happiness. To the rest of you, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story - keep those rumours flying!!
