Finding work as a dispatcher?

Hello,

Where can I get information on starting out as a dispatcher? I have no direct experience with dispatching but have 40hours approx towards PPL and I am currently working as a flight data analyst. Which websites/agencies are best to contact? Are there any jobs that I can get without the necessary qualifications and how much can I expect to earn?

If someone could point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

FDD

Hi dave!

Since your down in pompey try which ever major agents or the smaller ones actually at SOU. Summer is here and whoever has the most stable contracts or who has attained some new ones may be looking for people to cover flights.

Might only be seasonal though mate so watch it. Earnings arent brilliant enough to get by just dont expect the lap of luxury. Good place to be if your on your PPL like me. Meet a lot of airline big cheese' and you can get pally with some of the flight deck if you get into your advnaced flying. Plus if you like A/C's anyway / shift work ud probably enjoy it too!

Any Q's mate feel free to PM Will do my best

Dave,

If Southampton is no good and you can go as far as Gatwick then try:

Swissportuk.com
Menziesaviation.com
Servisair.com (also at Bristol)

or going the other way, flybe.com at Exeter do their won ground handling.

All are majors within the UK and are always on the lookout for good staff. As FDD says, the money is not fantastic but it does open the door to get you into the industry.

Good luck,
GH

Thanks GH and RollNow,

I've sent my CV to the above agents. I obtained the contact details from their websites I take it this is the best route? Do you need any specific qualifications or can you be trained on the job? Can you just give me a quick overview on what a job might entail. I believe I'm a very quick learner and am more than happy to undergo any training, but I'm not in a position to pay for any training/qualifications at the moment. Would this hinder me?

At the risk of dampening your enthusiasm I don't know of anyone who has been taken on as dircect entrance dispatcher with any of the major airlines or handling agents. It might be better long term move to apply for a job as customer service agent and then go for internal promotion. This route will give you much better experience and stand you better stead for the future.

I dunno i seem to see quite a few dispatchers coming in from the outside. However im a firm believer that pax services is probably the best place to start out before going there. Either that or Ramp. Helps you to help yourself as a dispatcher since you know whats going on on the other side etc etc
