I'm fairly new to all this too but eventually managed to get into the ops room.
I'd suggest start at somewhere like Servisair or Globeground, Virgin etc. Ground/pax handling or possibly even straight in as a junior dispatcher. stick with that for a while a learn the basics - codes/ abbreviations / a/c types porcedures etc and you can progress thru companies like this suprisingly quick if you're good.]
apply to airlines, theres plenty of ops bases where you are, but dont expect to get into the likes of ba/cityflyer/virgin etc straight away.
yeah, it takes time, but work your way up and never get bored in your job.
