Operations Assistant Job
Can anyone help me??
I have an interview with a UK airline next week for the position of 'Operations Assistant'. I have recently finished an aviation degree but have no experience in operations itself. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of tasks would probably be included in the job or what/where I can do some research for the interview. I would appreciate whatever help anyone can give me. Also, as the salary is not stated, what kind of pay do you think this position would offer??
Cheers!

Phil,
Do some research about what routes they fly and what type of aircraft they operate.
As an Ops Asst you'll be starting at the bottom, they'll need to appreciate you have no previous experience thus 'should' provide the necessary training.
Don't come across as a know it all, don't talk too much as if you are a 'reggy spotter', just come across as someone who is intelligent, prepared to learn and prepared to get your hands dirty. You need to get it across that you are flexible, able to work as a team player and whilst under pressure.
They'll probably expect you to relocate to live locally, before the interview go buy yourself the local newspaper(s) with all the ads in thus when they ask you about relocating you can say you've already started looking making a reference to the newspaper(s) in your bag.
If it is in Liverpool, good luck, you'll need it but good luck anyway.

Hi phil_2405
Ops can be hellish at times when it all goes horribly wrong you need to be a good communicator if you don't understand anything ASK and I mean it. They really need someone who is level headed in a crisis , shows Initiative and can work by ones self and be part of a team. You will be working closely with loads of different departments and service partners.
It will be a verticle learning curve but loads of fun.
Good luck and enjoy the job and you may beome additied and move upwards in the company. Shifts can be bad but the fun of the job makes up for that.

Get yourself into the RAF into Trade Group 9 (Air Traffic Control Assistant). Then get streamed as a Ops Assistant. The pay is better then you appear to be getting (£15000 rising to £25000 after a few years if you keep your nose clean...). You also get to go to exciting places, meet interesting people, and shoot them (but only if shot at first under rules of engagement)...
You don't need a degree to do assisting in the RAF. Use your degree to get a Commission in the RAF (but, again, only 3 A levels are needed- uni seems to have been a waste time unless you found the bar) and become an Operations Officer- £30000 for doing, well, not much really.
