Maintenance men, where are they?

Hi chaps (and chapesses!), can anyone help me? A friend of mine has recently started a small turbo-prop operation in the UK, and if it grows according to plan I hope to get a right-hand seat eventually.

Only trouble is he currently has to wear lots of hats, and if he doesn’t get someone else to look after managing maintenance my right-hand seat may well go out of the window.

Although this is not my business, I obviously have a vested interest in things working out. Any ideas? PM me if you have any thoughts on the matter.

Try advertising here (I'm about to advertise for a couple of Engineers, albeit with rather different skillsets, and that I reckon is my best bet for finding the right person).

Try offering a professional salary!!

The responsibility involved warrants more than the £35k plus 'perks' that most currently seem to be offering.

Good luck.:ok:

smudgethecat 4th June 2005 18:45

however bear in mind the average pay for a line engineer with shift pay and approval pay is around 40k plus any o/t of course

Genghis the Engineer 4th June 2005 20:01

That of course depends enormously upon the class of aircraft and size of the operation. Thus, so will a head of maintenance's pay vary.

true enough, im talking here about engineers who work for say mon ,tca ,ba,myt etc who all earn roughly this amount as a basic salary which is not a fortune considering the shift work, responsibility involved , numerous type ratings required etc is it? i personally hold full crs on a330 ,321, 320 757,767, a300, and work a 48 hr week, four on four off days and nights outside in all weathers and earn with some overtime around 48k which isnt exactly a kings ransom is it?

average pay for a line engineer with shift pay and approval pay is around 40k
I wish!

work a 48 hr week, four on four off days and nights
that's not a 48hr week, over a 52 week period that averages 42hrs a week! After all that's why you get shift pay!

That of course depends enormously upon the class of aircraft and size of the operation.
Should make no difference whatsoever, the responsibilty is the same! :yuk:

smudgethecat 5th June 2005 16:46

it certainly feels like 48 hrs after 4x12 hr shifts i can assure you! anyhow dont wish mate, if your not earning around 40k basic its about time you got of your butt and did something about it !

spannersatcx 5th June 2005 18:41

If only it was that easy!

smudgethecat 5th June 2005 18:57

whats the problem? i know for a fact myt, tca and mon are looking for b1/2 line engineers at various bases around the uk( i take it you are a licensed engineer)

TURIN 5th June 2005 21:14

Aw c'mon smudge you are winding us up now. You have to have a hell of a lot of cover to get 48k in this business.
I know for a fact that MyT pay a lot less than 40k for a couple of types as a B1.

BA the same.

Thomas Cook seem to be the market leaders and good luck to em I say.....

Any vacancies?:{

smudgethecat 6th June 2005 20:17

why would i wind you up ? my basic for a b1 with five type approvals ,shift pay is actually 39800 which is i can assure you is average for tca, mon, myt fca, etc b2 guys are on a bit more the average annual income inc o/t is around 50k on our line station (there is i think a salary survey over on airmech check it out) ps yes there are vacancies b1/2 with 757,767,330.321/300 if you have these types let me know and i will give you further details

TURIN 6th June 2005 22:13

Well I have one of those Smudge.

PM me with the details.:ok:

PS What's O/T?:O

ame_oz 9th June 2005 05:05

O/T is overtime.

spannersatcx 9th June 2005 14:40

I think that was sarcasm as he/she probably doesn't get any!

SeldomFixit 10th June 2005 13:07

Don't be too harsh Spanners - an "L"-ame-oz would have known that :ok: :ok:

MRDART 16th June 2005 10:22

Licenced Turbro Prop Engineers Pay

Mattress Man..

Currently working for a company that operates turbro-prop aircraft and pay vaties from about 25-31K depending on approvals, licence cover and shifts.

Although more money can be made else where, there are advantages to working for a small company. I choose to work for less pay because the location suits me.

However location plays a big part in the pay deal. Even offering 40K would not tempt a move to an airport based in or near a big city.

P.S. hope you find your work force...

KINGAIRMAN 15th July 2005 14:52
