Emirates Engineering - Recruitment Process

Hi everyone,
I've been shortlisted for about a month now, and still no date for the phone interview. Is this normal? Should I put my life on hold? Can anyone please share their experience with Emirates recruitment process? Also, any advice for the interview will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

MATMAX 8th Mar 2011 01:09

Cap 77 , you are lucky that the liars did not call you !
An advice , if they are calling you , just ignore them , you will thank me later ...

MATMAX 16th Mar 2011 10:58

More informations and explainations can be given by PM...
Cheers.

This isnt good!!

i read about how bad Etihad were and that they should get themselves along to Emirates! now Emirates is being bagged!

i know you have to be carefull when going to work in the middle east, and a lot of weather or not you enjoy it is down to the individual, but there must be something good out there?

TURIN 23rd Mar 2011 20:48

Well the whethers' nice. :}

greesemonkey01 26th Mar 2011 16:51

Hello my unknown Canadian friend,
Things are slow in the ME so just sit back and relax!
Try to get hired in the hangar if you can, trust me!
You came to the forum to find answers, you want to work for EK, you have your reasons. You will find people quick on the keyboard telling only one side of the story, I try to be fair and honest.
1 you will not become a millionaire by working for Emirates
2 you will make and save more money than in Canada
3 they will make you work hard for your money
4 you will love or hate Dubai
If you join the hanger: you will work 3 days 3 days off, few nights
Line: 2 days 2 nights 4 off 6 to 6. well and 9 pm to 9 am :yuk:
one extra day or night a month for lieu hours :yuk: ( then you have to beg your shift manager to take those hours back
you will hate the summer breeze from May till September:ok:
When you join you will get a temporary approval for 3 months with an extension for another 3 months. During that time you have to write air leg, first a multiple choice then essay. If you fail you will loose your temp license. It will take at least a year to get your GCAA license. These are the good times, you will end up enjoying the ride, doing sweet f@ck all.:)
Some guys managed to enjoy EK's free ride for 3 years :O

If you make it to the interview, try to talk to the guys and walk around with your eyes open!
Good luck mate!

Cap 77 28th Mar 2011 07:17

Hi Greesemonkey01!
Finally! A useful reply! I am guessing you are also Canadian :). Check your PM and talk to you soon.

MATMAX 28th Mar 2011 21:42

Cap 77,
Did you read something positive in what greesemonkey01 (maybe an ek hr recruiter) said ?
Do not keep your eyes too widely opened as you will get some powder or maybe sand throwed in them ...
Do yourself a favour , stay where you are or , you and your family will regret it ...

Itsallbollox 1st Apr 2011 17:52

Heres some more " True" Information regarding EK.

1. Believe me Emirates is just a name, you will be better off going connieing somewhere and earning some "proper" money.

2. The salary they pay is not that great you can earn twice as much contracting!

3. It is true you will sit around and wait for months and months on end doing absolutely bugger all, you are basically just forgotten about!

4. You have to get a letter from the authority who issues your current license to confirm that "this is" your license, before the GCAA will give you a temporary license, this is because some stupid cock used his mates license! Oh and you will wait for an eternity for Emirates Quality to issue a temp approval, once you have this your temp license will have nearly expired...........!
5. If you have the inclination you will eventually have to do loads of studying to get what is affectively a cornflake license that is required there by the GCAA, the GCAA are soooo backward they are still using the old BCAR section L system! Oh and the exams are multi choice and essay exams......an arse ache!
6.There is a lot of politics there with some dicks who are running the show, its very much a case if you don,t like it tough crap! .....And as for the lieu hours well this is a joke....you build up the hours then....you lose them cos theres no-one to woerk for you! you will have to do a compulsory "unpaid" yes "unpaid" shift once a month!!
7. In a nutshell.......go somewhere else!!!

Cap 77 2nd Apr 2011 05:28

Hi Greesemonkey01,
did you have a chance to check your Private Messages?

Terry McCassey 2nd Apr 2011 08:53

Matmax - just because you apparently did not fit into the Emirates mould, does not mean that others will not either. Like it or not, there are Engineers currently with EK that are more than happy than seemingly you were. Perhaps you could keep your caustic remarks under your hat which hopefully will be ignored by prospective recruits !

Cap 77 2nd Apr 2011 18:07

Matmax is totally ignored, but Itsallbollox isn't.

I keep my eyes and ears open. I hear over and over again (from different sources) that $$ is not that good. You can't ignore that! And an unpaid shift?! He must be kidding!

Would you mind sharing more? I am sure there are always pros and cons. The more I know, the more Emirates will benefit from me because they'll have an informed EE with less surprises to face. You can respond to my PM if you choose.
I'd appreciate your response.

Jingli 3rd Apr 2011 14:53

And an unpaid shift?! He must be kidding!
Nope - you work an extra day (or night) a month for free.

Keep discovering. :uhoh:

flame_bringer 4th Apr 2011 07:08

One question:
Do you guys not get paid extra $$ for your over time hours but rather get compensated by lieu time?

Jingli 4th Apr 2011 10:31

1st 12 hours is lieu time next 24 hours is paid.

Edited to say that this only applies to Line - Base have different rules.

Cap 77 4th Apr 2011 15:37

So, these first 12 hours in lieu time you never get to use? Is this how "unpaid shift" came up?

Also, did you guys get your profit share yet? Just to have an idea if that's another empty promise...

Thanks

MATMAX 8th Apr 2011 18:39

Could anybody explain me why younger guys do not want to listen experienced ones ...?
Sharing his own experience is useless ...?

Terry McCassey 11th Apr 2011 22:46

Perhaps because often more experience is never always relevant experience.

Gas Bags 12th Apr 2011 01:48

Matmax,

It may have something to do with how you respond to posts. I dont care one way or the other but your posts do come across as 'caustic' (as Terry McCassey put it).

The OP was looking for coherent answers to assist him with an important personal decision regaing his recruitment process at Emirates. To simply say dont go and then get upset that he is not immediately cancelling his application because of your negative responses is unrealistic.

Try toning down your responses and adding some substance to them, this may keep you off more ignore lists.

And Matmax, dont bother getting angry and telling me I should open my eyes, get out of Australia, get more experience, stop hating frenchies etc etc, because like it or not what I am doing is offering you constructive criticism.

Terry McCassey 12th Apr 2011 09:29

Nail on the head Gas bags . . . .

Safety Concerns 12th Apr 2011 10:10

why do you people feel that you have some right to determine how or what madmax should say?

Its his view on the world, take or leave it.

The middle east is easy to sum up without all the rose tinted spectacle nonsense.

Decide first why you are going.

If its for money...........forget it
If you are running away from something...........possibly
If you want to widen you experience of different cultures..........fantastic

Whether it works for you or not, only you can tell. But cut all this don't post this way post that pathetic nonsense.

spannersatcx 12th Apr 2011 14:54

yet you are doing exactly the same!

Safety Concerns 12th Apr 2011 16:10

spanners you are an apparently intelligent person so why a stupid post.

where in that post am I telling someone how to post. You post a comment, take it or leave it. It is that simple.

spannersatcx 12th Apr 2011 16:30

But cut all this don't post this way post that pathetic nonsense.
That part, but hey ho, I don't always agree with what's posted on forums but it's not for me to say what should and shouldn't be posted.

You post a comment, take it or leave it. It is that simple.
absolutely agree, if you don't agree fine, have a reasoned discussion, but I won't tell people what they can can't post.

I have opinions on DXB and EK, but I don't think they will add to the discussion so I haven't posted them, everyone has their opinions on places, some will be good some will not, trouble is you will hear more from the unhappy side than the other, that's the way it is.

Anyway that's me done, got to go and watch a football match. :ok:

Safety Concerns 12th Apr 2011 16:38

well there is only one match on tonight if you are in the UK:D:D:D

You in sunny Manchester by any chance asks this Chelsea fan?

Gas Bags 12th Apr 2011 19:19

you can't say anything. You've been in the business 2 minutes and have a mouth wider than the Mersey tunnel.

Get some time in. Learn the profession not just the job and then maybe, just maybe you may grow a few more brain cells, complete your modules and realise what a stupid post yours was.
Posted on the 7th April this year by Safety Concerns (My bolds). Apparantly it is ok for him to tell other people what they can or cant post.

Quite a pompous attitude to take if you ask me.

as much as it hurts, you deserved it. Congratulations.

NOW GO AND WIN IT.

spannersatcx 13th Apr 2011 10:21

hope so as I already have a ticket for the final, better stop a bit off topic!:ok:

ashoo89 18th Apr 2011 15:30

got a call "before shortlisting"

I have a similar problem...I got this call from emirates...asked me random stuff about employment...preffered sallary? which area do u want to work? ure current visa status in U.A.E??(i live here).....and all such random stuff..in the end she said something like "we need to know all this before short-listing someone"

I have applied to quite a few different roles on their careers page..and uptill now...there is no change in there....just one application "under review"..which have been the case since looong...any average time I shud wait for them to get a call for my interview???

spannersatcx 18th Apr 2011 18:24

It's not random, it has a purpose. If they need people in the hangars and that's where your preference is then you'll get a tick, can you actually reside in Dubai without them having to worry about you getting visa's etc, then another tick in the box. How much do you expect to earn, 100000 whatevers, they have a limit of 80000 then no tick in the box. That way they don't waste yours or their time setting up an interview.

spannersatcx 19th Apr 2011 07:22

Found this interesting, sums it up pretty well, in my opinion. Dubai on Empty

Ah, the insightful Mr Gill...

I cant believe he actually gets paid for writing guff like this:

"The first thing you see when you arrive is the airport"

No **** sherlock - I think I'm in the wrong job :uhoh:

Itsallbollox 23rd Apr 2011 12:37

in a nutshell! Do not bother going to emirates it is fecking awful!! Go and earn some "proper money" as a connie. From day one the job is total arse!!

station360 24th Apr 2011 20:37

I say

I say i have a jolly good friend who works for this bloody rabbel and he tells me he,s passing the word around that you do actually get treated like ****e and he says if you,re thinking about joining don,t!! problem is if you,re not a yes man then forget it!! It sounds like they,ve got a right load of eeeejats running the show!!
I was thinking of applying but i think I,ll go plow some fields with my tractor instead!! Or work on some of those there little ole puddle jumpers at Newquay Airport beats working for a bunch of pricks! And I know that will be more satisfying!

I,m off to do some fishing......................

Cap 77 26th Apr 2011 18:27

constructive advice - anybody?

Well, I’ve been silent for a long time... When I started this post I assumed that I’ll be talking to fellow engineers and technicians who can:
- share their experience with Emirates recruitment process
- give advice on the interview process.
I was hoping I’ll get some constructive advice similar to many pilots posts. Even though their posts are also polluted with useless comments, you can still find very specific advice pointing you to some very valuable sources about how to prepare for the interview and share work related experience. So far, I received very little help. If you are not comfortable sharing in the open, you can always send me a private message and we’ll go from there.
It looks like some folks are coming to this post just to entertain themselves.
To some of you - cut down on unrelated noise and have some respect to your fellow colleagues.

airlineguy1980 27th Apr 2011 05:58

CAP77

With all due to respect to CAP77. what those guys who are giving negative stuff about emirates sounds to you as useless.but in truth my friend. They are spot on. Its just from canada you cant understand the gravity of the nonsense those people who are already there in emirates going thru everyday. As a matter of fact the whole middleeast if you are not yes man. Then the witch hunt begins with you.its worse than a third world system. With control freak bosses treat you like a child bully.top it all even some are big time naggers worse than a woman.Imagine a guy who have been banned in more than 4 or 5 companies as engineer can get promoted and supervise you.what kinda control freak he have to be

aveng 27th Apr 2011 07:13

If it wags it's tail like a dog, barks like a dog, it probably is a DOG - I'd be listening to these people before jumping!:ok:

bvcu 27th Apr 2011 08:51

At the end of the day put it into context , dont disagree with the negatives but go and have the interview and look at the place . Its down to your personal situation , there isnt a lot of work about at the moment anywhere so its worth looking at . Anyone anywhere at the moment after a few years seems to have plenty of negative points but on the other hand there are plenty of expats in DXB who have done a lot of years . Quite a few people put up with the work because their families enjoy the place , you wont get rich , but it is a reasonably secure job working on a generally new fleet.

Cap 77 27th Apr 2011 18:08

Absolutely! I pay attention to all the negativity on this forum, as well as other places. However, it makes me think: there must be reasons why many still stay there.
I came to this forum to narrow down my discussion about EK with my follow colegues, who've been through the selection process and would be willing to share some constructive advice or insight, like yours and some others. But some folks make very generic and useless comments telling me what to do! I greatly appreciate everything guys say here (life, work, medical, education, etc) if it is to the point.
In my case, there is a lot of work for me here at home. So, I have to take a lot of things into consideration. My wife would like to meet with other wives while I am busy there with the interview. Would other women be willing to spare an hour of their time with her to share their experience?

And again, this post was ment to be about the selection process. How long would be Dubai interview? What's it like? How can I prepare for it?

Thank you all for taking time to reply to my post.
