Red face

I know a couple of aussies working for Emirates as engineers, a few in the hangar and a few on the line. The job is a mixed bag, some good and some not. Work is ok, the blokes ok, the real problems lay with the accomodation and schooling.
Money is ok but as the aussie dollar strengthens the salary goes backwards as it is linked to the US. The oz has gained 15% this year already, that means a 15% pay cut in oz dollar terms.
Dubai has a high standard of living but is an expensive place to live (more than oz so I hear).
Accomodation department is a disaster that have screwed up a lot of families and made live miserable for a number of people, they are probably the no.1 complaint from everybody I know who has ever worked there.
Schooling is expensive and the company do not pay all of it, the limited number of schools also means that places in schools are limited, depending on age.
Should you go ther? Depends on your own situation, but don't expect to get rich in paradise.

EK DXB

Hiya,

I was seconded to EK for 1 yr....to give them hand as an engineer,it was 7 yrs ago...I would have like to stay but it was now I would change my mind...the cost of living has nearly doubled in 7 yrs !!!!
I go there from time to time on holidays,so I get the best of UAE....
It's a great airline, the best would be to work with them in your own country (or somewhere else) as a line eng.
That's right, before when they had several 310/300-600,it was a little company, any maried eng. could get a nice house in a compound....time's changed as the company is growing.
If you have the opportunity to go there on vaccation don't hesitate you would have a better idea.
For poeple having a license and according to "good records" there's no problem to join...just to pass "the rules and regulation" local exam.(they could ask for more...)
Cheers

What is the salary range? And do you need any endorsements on their types to get in? I'm already in Abu Dhabi.
