Would I Get Hired
Hi folks,
I am curious to know the position I am in at te moment, I am HNC Qualified in Aero eng and currently studying my HND. I also have an National certificate and 2 months experience with BA at Glasgow. I was looking at contracting work recently and would like to hear if anyone knows that I am in a position to get into as a mechanic/fitter, I am looking to gain my licence aswell so I will need practical experience to be issued with the licence!
cheers

First thing, have you got your own tools, I don't mean a halfords special, if you want to go contracting you will need a full set of tools, some places expect you to have your own windy drills etc.
I'm being honest not rude you need more experience, I would suggest if you can to keep going the way you are and build up your experience.
Remember a lot of people with a lot of experience have been the subject of cutbacks in the last 12-18 months so, unfortunately there are a lot of people out there looking for work at the moment.
It may be worth dropping one of the agencies a line and ask for their advise.
Hope that helps.

Have you tried any of the company's at GLA to see if they'd take you on as a trainee or mechanic. I know Loganair have a hangar there and I saw another company (Highland Airways?) advertising for engineers. Maybe worth a try getting in touch with them and seeing what they say about it. Maybe try get some more experience out of BA if possible, unfortunately they're still not recruiting (In fact lucky I've still got a job!)
Failing that, try getting into one of the General Aviation engineering places at one of the local airfields until you've done your Licence theory. Only problem there is that if it's under 5700kgs you can't count it towards JAR but it would still look good on your CV if you went for a mechanics job.
Hope this helps you, if there's anything else gimme a shout and I'll see what I can find out for you.
