Statutory Redundancy at British Airways Manchester
Statutory Redundancy at British Airways Manchester How come there is no mention of the FACT that 30+ British Airways Engineering staff based at Manchester Airport have been served with letters stating that as of 30th of September 02,they will be made redundant at the government statutory minimum wage!i.e.An employee with 13 years service sent off with £2400!!!!!!!unless they move their families to LHR or accept a fraction of their annual wage (taxable)...Oh they have until the 15th of September to reply.............................

Mainwheel.This is a serious posting.Fellow engineers jobs are on the line not just at MAN if the management get their way,but the whole of the airline.This includes flight and cabin crew,aircraft services, ground staff,everyone everywhere within the company.Or would you rather turn this posting into a forum on screwthread sizes and profiles or othersuch unrelated issues?
Staying at MAN is not an option. That is the point. The stood down staff at MAN have been issued with letters giving them a choice:-
1. Take the voluntary severance offer.
2. Move to LHR.
No. 2. is a non starter due to the huge housing price differential, not to mention family upheavel.
That leaves No.1.
If a choice is not made by 15th of this month then BA has said (in the letters) that you will be considered as redundant on 30th September and that this letter is written notice of that at STATUTORY rates, IE. £230 for every years service capped at £3500 (i think).
There are hundreds of BA staff on what is known as "gardening leave" Cabin Crew, Ex Flight Engineers, Pilots etc. They are not being targeted in this way. It is regional & industrial apartheid (to coin a soundbite).
The Engineers at MAN are being unfairly treated by it's management and if it happens then LGW,BHX,GLA AND LHR are next!!
Support your fellow workers or fall, divided at the next chop!!!!

I think with more than 25 to go they [management] have to give more than one months notice. The max is 3 months check it out with the c.a.b.
option 2 go to LHR live in digs take whatever relocation is on offer and in the mean time look for another job.Being out of work today is not good jobs are hard to come by.

Face it Bad Airways is finished...take the money and run....at least being first out you have a better chance of another job.

GALENT is right in how much notice is given, however the notice is to the department of employment and not to the individual. An individuals notice is as per their contract, i.e. 30 days.
A sad situation that doesn't seem to be being handled very well by the union at all!

union at ba do a very good job of supporting the management!. appologies to the stewards who do try hard but lets face it, if we come near to adeal the union upper levels will screw it up for us. Long live unions, they can work well, but the sooner they die at lhr the better. Resurection can bring great strengh, all resign and join another (skyport shows the union that still has its members at heart rather than being just another money grabbing organisation).
