On a lighter nostalgic note.......

I had little visitors to my house a few days ago. 8 year olds. I had to dig out some toys from my attic and I came across the Lego Technic I never learned how to use as a kid. most important: I found a battery pack and electric motor, and me and the kiddies whiled away the hours making cog-and-wheel systems for turn tables and the like.

But, here's the crux. My aunt came in for a chat and before she left, she asked me how a car worked (she'll be going for her driving test in a few days) and I was able to explain the whole clutch/piston side to side to circular motion/ gearbox thing to her using it.

So, what memories do you have of your first introduction to mechanics?
